S A Brain and Company is Wales' leading provider of hospitality services with an estate ranging from pubs and bars to hotels across Wales, the West Country and in the centre of Wales' capital, Cardiff. Renowned for its fine ales brewed in traditional style, S A Brain also boasts a growing food heritage offering a wide variety of meals in all of its outlets.

With a growing food business, S A Brain wanted a more sophisticated way of controlling their food buying operation and planned to control food cost and margin expectation in a more targeted fashion. Having identified the scale of their operations, Star Logic suggested a solution that would be suited to their business structure, together with an implementation plan that included training, data import and ongoing user support.

S A Brain were first made aware of StarChef.NET through a recommendation by an EPoS provider that had previously worked with the Star Logic team and sought to view the system onsite at the brewery in Cardiff.

Having examined the system, it became quickly apparent that StarChef could offer SA Brain all of the added functionality and control that they would need in the business as well as offering future functionality that would help towards their goals of providing nutritional menu information.

Working closely with the food development team, Star Logic created an ingredient listing in StarChef that reflected the needs of S A Brain. This in turn formed the basis of recipe and menu creation giving robust costs to the team.

The outcome of this exercise has seen S A Brain being able to create cost and profit effective menus across their estate and given the ability to model future needs. The clarity given to the team has no led to a desire to produce further information from StarChef to aid the business processes and has freed time for the menu development team to focus on other more beneficial tasks.
